Video Game as an Alternative to History Class

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Uncategorized
It is but a fact that History is one of the subjects that children hate during their grade school and high school years. Even I myself is one of these students who does not appreciate the importance of the subject wayback school years.
While the children want to play video games than study History, many parents would like also to have their kids to be better equally in all subjects. Now, this problem of the most parents can be solved as there are already a lot of video games that are history-oriented.
One of the games that promotes history is the Age of Empires. Set in the period after the fall of the Roman Empire, it requires players to create a civilization and move it through successive phases in order to dominate the world. This video game just simulates what the conquerors were doing in the past. Games of this kind are actually good for the students as they are not only promoting and developing their cognitive and problem solving skills but they are also helping the students be aware of the world history.
Thus, according to Kurt Squire, an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, “In cases like Age of Empires, you have kids playing the game and getting interested in the history and developing a lifelong love of history.”
Developing understandings of how successful games motivate and teach and of how their underlying design principles engage players and keep them engaged are the keys to making video games as a study tool, says instructor Barry Fishman, associate professor of educational studies and learning technologies. “There is much that we can learn from these games about how to design better learning environments in school.”
Making History’s technology, graphics, and interfaces will be familiar to students. But what’s different is that students will learn, and even experience, difficult and hard-to-explain concepts of the World History.

Here is an outdoor activity for a warm sunny afternoon. When you are out on a neighbourhood walk with your little one, try this game. Its easy to begin by trying to find simple things like “Who can point to a birds nest first?” Simple games like this one are enough to get a preschooler all excited

Create your very own Story book

This one can be as good a fun educational activity as one of fun kids games. Let your child know that you plan to make a story book. Let them have some crayons, paper or pictures and you can ask them to do some coloring and drawing. You can then cut and paste the pictures in a book. And once finished with pasting the pictures, ask your little one what the story behind the pictures is and then you can write the story for them in the book under each picture. You can even use old magazine cut outs and paste it and make the story book with your little one.

Etch-A-Sketch

An Etch-a-Sketch is a great classic toy for kids of just about any age. It helps teach them creativity and coordination while providing you with a few minutes of quiet time. Even our two-year-old loves playing with the Etch-a-Sketch, and with no little parts to have to worry about, it’s a great game for toddlers and older children as well.

Checkers

Checkers are fun to play with, and they have a place in the home for the young and the old alike. Not only is this vintage board game fun, it really helps to develop your child’s thinking ability, and helps them to learn about cause and effect. While younger children really will not get much out of checkers as a game, toddlers will enjoy their stack-ability and their roll-ability… more or less fun for all ages.

Keeping your children, and even teenagers, entertained does not have to mean that you rely upon the television set or computer games to do so. Classic games and activities, such as the five that we have outlined here, offer better benefits for your children, while still allowing you to escape and enjoy it a little bit.

The Need for an Exercise Program for Children

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Uncategorized

Behind the social recluse status of the obese in our society, there are significant, easily preventable health risks involved with obesity. The most common health conditions associated with children who are obese because of lack of regular exercise and fun child outdoor games. These conditions include asthma, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, orthopedic problems, and most frightening, sleep apnea—a disorder in which breathing ceases during sleeping. Observably not permanently, but the effects are lack of focus and a significant increase in the lack of logical thought.

An exercise program in a form of child sports for your children is so important because of the large amount of health problems associated with those  who are inactive—namely obesity.

To help your child steer clear of these health risks, not to mention the emotional risks of being outcast because of weight, you need to set them up on a regular exercise program. Children’s exercise programs in a form of sports or fun games are not hard to do—just get them outside or keep them inside, but focus on them getting active.

These exercise programs in a form sports or any child games has more to do with cardiovascular activities that burn lots of energy. Examples of great cardiovascular activities are running, swimming, rowing, canoeing, rock climbing—the list goes on. It also doesn’t need to be simply running—it can be a game of tag, catch, playing soccer outdoors; anything that gets your kids heart beating and gets them sweating a bit.

Research has also shown that overweight children tend to be more depressed than other children who are in shape In addition, physical activities, particularly cardiovascular activities can actually make you feel great. The so called “runner’s high” is caused when someone who is engaged a high amount of cardiovascular activity gets a massive dump of dopamine into the brain—a chemical that instills a euphoric state in the person doing the activity, a natural high.

It would seem reasonable that getting your child on an exercise program should be a prime as a parent to ensure the health and happiness of your child. But all along with the exercise goes a healthy diet, healthy relationships, staying active, and of course, laughing a lot.
